WEEDSPORT, NY – Last April, Peter Britten made the shocking announcement that he was heading to Lebanon Valley Speedway as a regular for the 2019 season. Well, after collecting one victory and finishing 26 points away from winning the track championship, he’s ready to attack the high banks again this season.
Britten will again make the haul from his Weedsport, NY race shop each week to the West Lebanon, NY oval in search of more wins and that elusive title. Last season was an amazing rookie season at the track, but now he knows that the pressure is on to do even better. With that pressure, he knows he’s up for the task.
“We had a great season at Lebanon last year,” Britten said. “We got a win and were in the hunt all the way to the end. To say we finished second to the King of the Valley (Kenny Tremont) is pretty awesome.”
Even though he finished runner-up, the desire to be at the top of the mountain still burns inside the native of Australia and is why he’s coming back for more this coming season.
“We had no expectations last year,” he said. “We started out wanting to do our best. Then we started to have success so our expectations changed. This year, we want as many wins as possible and we want that championship.”
The core of drivers who can win on any given night at Lebanon Valley is strong, and Britten knows that he has the equipment to be in the mix.
“The Valley field is really strong week in and week out,” he said. “You’ve got Tremont, Flach, Bachetti, Lombardo Marshall and a host of others who are all capable of getting to victory lane each week and winning the track title. We were close last year and I think we can contend for the championship this year. However, I know it’s not going to be easy.”
