Chemung Speedrome Cancels May Events

“To stay in line with NYS guidelines and directives from the Governor, our May race schedule will be cancelled. The May 16 ROC show is being postponed with the hope of being re scheduled at some point this summer. We understand the frustration as you can imagine but we have no choice. Our speedrome is simply considered a non-essential business, we can all make an argument and offer an opinion why we think it is essential but as far as the state and county are concerned, we are non essential therefore we cannot conduct any kind of business. We have been in contact with town and county officials and we are hoping that after May 15th if the stay at home order is lifted, we will have have a plan in place to at least offer practice and track rentals with strict guidelines. We have no crystal ball and with very few answers about the up coming summer and mass gatherings, our entire season is up in the air but we are staying positive that at some point this summer, we will be able to race. The COVID 19 crisis has placed a burden on everyone, the financial burden is felt by all and we have had a lot of messages and emails with ideas to social distance if we can open, We appreciate all of the ideas, most plans will put a limit on the number of people that will be allowed in one place. Putting limits on a fan base and limiting the amount of fans allowed is not a good option for us to operate under. With some major events in NY and PA already being cancelled this spring and summer, we have to be realistic and hopeful at the same time. We can promise you that we will do everything possible to get Chemung fans and competitors to the track as soon as possible. We have a plan worked up to present to the county on May 15th for practice and track rentals, if that gets approved we will notify all competitors and hopefully get some cars on the track. We will keep everyone updated with any changes that come about, We hope this finds everyone healthy and strong, we will get through this and come back stronger than ever.” – Ray Hodge
