Dave DuBois and Kyle Inman Garner Second Wins of the Season at Genesee

BATAVIA, NY – Dave DuBois has years of experience hitting the cushion late in a night at Genesee Speedway and making it pay off for a win. On Saturday Night, he coupled that knowledge with his ability to see the fast groove that the leader couldn’t to roar on by and drive away to the win.

DuBois, of Corfu, notched his second win of the season in convincing fashion with a power restart on lap 12 to drive around Beamer Guzzardi and never look back. For DuBois, the only caution of the race on lap 11 gave him an opportunity to lick his chops.

“Beamer was at a disadvantage because being out front he didn’t know the top of three and four was so good so when he chose the bottom lane (for the restart) I knew if I just got a good run down the backstretch I could beat him around in (turns) three and four.”

After the exchange for the lead, DuBois, an eight-time 360 Late Model Champion then put on a drive reminiscent of his prior class as he was superior to the rest of the talented field. In the end he would win by more than five seconds.

After losing the top spot to DuBois, Beamer Guzzardi battled hard to fend off David Pangrazio for second, just holding off the No. 136 at the line. Behind that duo were JJ Mazur and Doug Ricotta to complete the top five.

Kyle Inman is perhaps the best Sportsman competitor at running the bottom groove of the Genesee Speedway, but on Saturday Night it was his prowess on the outside of the 1/3-mile oval that proved to be the difference.

Inman, of Darien, grabbed the lead from AJ Custodi on a lap 12 restart by powering to the cushion in turns one and two and drove away for his second win of the season. Inman was skeptical how much side-by-side racing the track would produce before the feature but as the 25-lap race went along the groove widened out and produced some terrific action.

Division rookie Byron Dewitt led the opening 10 laps until the first caution flag of the race waved. AJ Custodi was able to muscle the lead away from Dewitt on a lap 11 restart just before another caution flag waved. On the ensuing restart, Inman used the same maneuver to take the top spot away for good. Custodi would hold on for a career-best second place showing, with Zach George driving up to third. Byron Dewitt was happy with his fourth place finish, while Cam Tuttle rounded out the top five after graduating from high school earlier in the day.

It was an emotional win in the Street Stocks for Tommy Kemp as the veteran won his first feature at the track since 2017 when he was in the 360 Late Model Division. Kemp was overcome with gratitude in Victory Lane for all he and his team have been through to grab another set of Checkered Flags. It was a 20-lap caution-free race that featured five cars breaking away from the rest of the pack and duking it out for the win. Kemp’s nearest competitor throughout was John Zimmerman, who almost got by on lap 14 but would have to settle for second. Point Leader Josh Pangrazio was carving his way through the pack and had gotten to third when he cut a left-front tire relegating him to the pits. Doug Jones would stay right with the lead duo and finish in third while Tom Baker came home in fourth. Damian Long rounded out the top five.

Chris Leone became the fifth different winner in the Mini Stocks in 2019 as he captured the win in the 15-lap. The Niagara Falls driver started at the back of the redraw in 12th but charged hard and took the lead from James Gayton on lap five and then held a steady distance over Brandon Shepard to return to Victory Lane, which he visited four times in 2018. A caution-flag flew with less than a lap remaining setting up a dramatic dash but Leone was able to withstand Shepard to the line. Bill Weller Jr crossed in third but did not pass tech, handing the spot over to Brad Whiteside. Ashley Blech rallied from a lap one incident to get back inside the top five in fourth. Cole Susice rounded out the top five.

Tyler Guzzardi broke through for his first career win in the Bandit feature, taking the lead from point leader Allison Dewitt on a lap five restart with a strong pass on the outside of the track and then hit his marks for the rest of the race to become the fourth different winner in the division this year. Dewitt would cross in second while Greenley George rallied from a midrace incident to complete the podium.

The seventh night of the season was a unique one when all 13 of the qualifying heats were run from start-to-finish without a caution flag period, a feat not easily recalled in recent memory.

Racing will resume in a big way once again soon with a special Thursday Night show this Fourth of July. The ULMS Super Late Models join special features for the Crate Late Models, BEI Sportsman, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks. Time Trials will start at 6:00 P.M. with heat races going green at 7:00 P.M.
