The following night, Saturday, August 17, is the 30th annual Tommy Druar/Tony Jankowiak Memorial Modified 110 for the Race of Champions Modified Series. The groundpounders return to the home of Modified racing in Western New York for one of the most prestigious races of the season.
Defending race winner, Andy Jankowiak, leads Chuck Hossfeld by 52 points in the RoC Modified Series standings with just four races to go in their season. They’ll be joined by fellow Modified stars Eric Beers, Mike Leaty, Patrick Emerling, Daryl Lewis, Jr., George Skora III and more. This event brings out the best of the “Mod Squad” as they battle it out for 110 laps. Teams will also be on their toes as they will have to pull off a lightning fast pit stop when their drivers comes in for a tire change during the race.
The Tommy/Tony 110 pays tribute to two of its fallen heroes, Modified drivers Tommy Druar and Tony Jankowiak, who were taken from us in two separate racing incidents less than a year apart. The 110-lap distance is based on the combination of the car numbers of Druar (No. 37) and Jankowiak (No 73).
The Race of Champions Super Stocks, Street Stocks and NYPA TQ Midgets will also be in action. Front gates will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday with racing beginning at 6:30 p.m.
