OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Speedway Hall of Famer Joe Gosek is starting off the new year by adding yet another item to his illustrious resume.
For his longstanding commitment to the sport and accomplishments behind the wheel of Supermodfieds, ‘00 Joe’ has been selected as a member of the Eastern Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
This year’s hall of fame class, which was voted in by the membership of EMPA, includes Gosek, Jimmy Spencer, Lenny Sammons, Gary Gollub, and Ray Brown Sr.
Gosek is the first driver with Oswego roots elected into the hall of fame since Bentley Warren in 2009. He joins only Warren and Jim Shampine as Supermodified drivers elected into EMPA’s gifted class.
Along with claiming 44 wins including three International Classics and two track championships at his home facility, Gosek is also a two-time ISMA champ and sits fifth on the tour’s all-time win list with 26 victories.
As a means of honoring Gosek for his various achievements, it was announced this past August that his iconic No. 00 would be retired in Oswego’s Novelis Supermodified division. Gosek was elected into Oswego’s Hall of Fame in 2011.
Created in 1969 by Ernie Saxton, Red Kirsch, Al Consoli, Jim Cutler and John Ernesto, the aim of the Eastern Motorsport Press Association (EMPA) is to foster a better understanding of the sport gaining recognition for the motorsports press, improving working condition for the racing media, and honoring deserving individuals who make or have made contributions to the sport.
Since its founding, EMPA has grown from a handful of members to become one of the largest motorsports media organizations in the nation with more than 250 members. For more information, you can visit the organization online at EmpaOnline.org.
Oswego Speedway’s 69th season of racing is scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 25 with Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50 features for the Novelis Supermodifieds plus full programs for the Pathfinder Bank Small Block Supers and the 350 Supermodifieds.
