Phelps Captures Three Top Five Finishes

The ‘Baldwinsville Bandit’, Jimmy Phelps, brought home three top-five finishes over the weekend.

The weekend kicked off on Friday evening at Brewerton Speedway where Phelps qualified his No.98h machine in second from his third-place starting spot.

“It was a fun night,” he said. “It seemed like it was back to the normal Brewerton where you could run all over.”

Phelps started on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We didn’t fire as good as we needed to get up front so by the end we were really digging,” noted Phelps. “I thought things were starting to head in the right direction. Hopefully we can get our rhythm back over there.”

The HBR team made their first trip of the season across the border to Cornwall Motor Speedway with the Super DIRTcar Series on Sunday.

“It was a pretty clean night,” he said. “We quietly hung around the front all night.”

Phelps qualified second in his heat race, placing him into the top-12 redraw for the 100-lap feature.

“The guys made reallygood adjustments,” he added.

By luck of the draw, Phelps rolled off on the outside of the fourth row.

“We needed to be a little more aggressive earlier in the race to gain spots, but towardthe end we clawed our way forward and got to fourth,” noted Phelps. “I felt like we ran out of time and had more to give.”

Monday afternoon saw the team maketheir lone visit to Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway with the series.

“We had a rough night to start,” he said. “We were fast in practice but lost power steering during time trials, so we ended up timing fifth in our group.”

Phelps went on to qualify fourth in his heat, placing him in the redraw once again, drawing sixth-place.

“We got to second,” he said. “Our lap times were pretty good, then a yellow came out ataround lap 70. I was licking my chops. I thought we were really good but neither Matt norI really fired, and Larry Wight drove right by both of us.

Phelps was able to maneuver his way to a fourth-place finish Monday evening.

“I’m really happy with the car,” added Phelps. “I don’t know if we sealed a tire up but that last forty laps didn’t seem like we had the same car, so we just rode around and tried to hold on. We weren’t the only ones, though. Everyone was in the same boat except forLarry.”

Phelps’sweekend outings have him sitting in fourth for the Super DIRTcar Series point standings.

Phelps and the team pulled off a strong weekend with the no.98h machine. Next up will be Land of Legends Speedway for both Phelps and teammate, Max McLaughlin this Thursday and then back to Brewerton Speedway this Friday for Phelps.
